Winning Here: May 2024 Election Roundup
This year's May council election results we brilliant for the Lib Dems.
We have 13 more councillors than we did last week in the North West and made 104 net gains nationwide. We also gained overall control of two more councils - Tunbridge Wells and Dorset.
Here in the North West we moved closer to control of Stockport Council, where we took two seats from Labour to finish on 31 seats of the borough's 63. That puts us just one seat short of overall control in a council we have been running in minority since last year.
In Preston we made a stunning five gains - four from the Conservatives and one from Labour. We become the official opposition on the council, with 12 Lib Dems holding Labour to account and only 6 remaining Tories.
We gained four seats in Warrington becoming the opposition party there too.
In Salford, in Sefton and in Pendle we gained one seat each. Elsewhere we held our existing seats in Burnley, Halton, Knowsley, Rochdale, Trafford and Manchester
In Oldham we held three seats but lost one to an Independent. Finally in Bolton we gained one from the Conservatives and lost one to Labour so we still have 6 councillors there.
