Lib Dem WIN in Cumbria

In today's South Lakeland council byelection the Lib Dems won with an increased share of the vote.

Congratulations to new Councillor Fiona Hanlon and all of her campaign team!

The result in full:

Lib Dem - Fiona Hanlon: 1336 (66%, +6%)
Con: 541 (27%, +1%)
Green: 85 (4%, -3%)
Lab: 56 (3%, -4%)

Turnout was 42.9%.

Local MP Tim Farron tweeted:

"Congratulations @fionamusiclakes - with two-thirds of the vote, an amazing result.

"Well done to the whole local Lib Dem team - a fantastic effort and a well deserved victory in beautiful Grange and Allithwaite."


Elsewhere in today's byelections we gained two seats in Scotland and in a West Yorkshire seat we came from not fielding a candidate last time to 42% of the vote and just 75 votes from making another gain.
