Conversion Therapy: Still No Action
"Conversion therapy is a terrible and harmful practice. It should be banned and there is no excuse for the government's dithering and delaying." says Lib Dem MP Wera Hobhouse.
It is more than 1,000 days since then-Prime Minister Theresa May promised action, and more than a year since her successor Boris Johnson made a similar pledge.
Previously Lib Dem MP for Oxford West & Abingdon Layla Moran observed: "The government must stop dragging its feet and ban gay conversion therapy for good. No-one should be told that their identity is wrong and needs to be cured.
"We have already waited two years for action on this vital issue. Young people who are being subjected to this harmful and outdated practice should not be made to wait any longer."
Wera Hobhouse, who is MP for Bath, has a Private Members' Bill on the subject which is due to return to the House of Commons next year.
