Conservatives put Banks ahead of Children
Speaking about the Budget Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey MP today said on BBC Politics Live,
"Because they had more money, I was really surpised they failed to invest in our schools.
"Liberal Democrats have argued for an emergency budget for children.
"As we heard from Payul Johnson from the IFS, they really didn't step up to the plate with that challenge.
"After the COVID pandemic there are lots of young people, teenagers whose mental health has been hit.
"And there have been big inequality issues. A lot of the evidence suggests that children from more disadvantaged backgrounds have been hit the most.
"That's why Liberal Democrats have argued for more money.
"We've started looking at the details. They are giving more in a tax cut for banks in the City of London - tax cuts for banks - than they have announced today in education cash and funding.
"That is the wrong priority. When you've got a lot of money, it's about priorities.
"This government, the Conservatives, have chosen the banks above our children. That's wrong."
