Beating the Tories in the North West
The Liberal Democrats beat the Conservatives to take second place in seats across the North West last Thursday.
With council elections held across most of the region the Lib Dems won 49 of the seats up for election - compared to just 41 for the Tories.
It echoes the national result where the Lib Dems won 522 of the seats up (104 gains net) while the Conservatives took 515 (losing 474) - again taking second place behind Labour and far ahead of Reform or the Greens.
Overall we won 14 more seats than last time these council seats were up, though byelections in the intervening time mean we are up 13 seats compared to immediately before polling day.
While the Lib Dems made 14 net gains in the North West and the Tories fell back losing 41 seats net, Labour also lost seats overall - down 5 seats in the North West compared to last time.
