Andy Corkhill
We are deeply saddened to report the death of Andy Corkhill, who was our regional Vice Chair Policy less than two years ago.
Andy was 36 and a Liberal Democrat councillor representing Oxton on Wirral Council. He was also our parliamentary candidate in Wirral West, and is pictured above at the centre of a sea of Lib Dem diamond posters when he was chosen by members as our candidate for Liverpool Metro Mayor in 2020.
The election was postponed to May 2021 and he had to step down as candidate for health reasons; he died after the return of a cancer he had first developed at just 19 years old, and for which he had surgery at the start of 2021.
In comments to the Liverpool Echo, fellow Oxton ward Councillor Stuart Kelly said: "Andy had been battling episodes of cancer since his teenage years but never let it get in the way of striving to make a contribution where he was able. His loss will be felt by us and by the community and Council."
Councillor Allan Brame added: "Andy was a rising star of the party. He had so much more to contribute and his dedication to the cause of tackling climate change in particular will be hugely missed. Above all, we miss him as a friend, a young man robbed of life and all his unfulfilled potential."
