Meet Chris Carubia
Your Liberal Democrat Candidate for Merseyside's Police and Crime Commissioner
On 2 May 2024 alongside local elections for councils in Sefton, St Helens and Knowsley, and for Liverpool City Region Mayor, there is an election for Merseyside's Police and Crime Commissioner.
In 2016 Chris stood as the Liberal Democrat candidate for the Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner.
At each election our vote in Merseyside has increased - 7.3% in 2012 when the role was created, 11.5% in 2016, and 16.5% last time with some 51,979 Lib Dem votes.
Chris says: "My campaign in 2016 was on maintaining a visible presence by defending front line policing, to protect neighbourhood policing and fully support our PCSOs.
"These to ensure swift and effective response to reports of anti-social behaviour, prioritising and tackling domestic violence and sexual exploitation and to champion the rights of victims and the use of restorative justice.
"I can honestly say, in my opinion, that these issues have not progressed in any meaningful way and still need to be championed.
"Let's get more feet on the street"
Chris was first elected as a Wirral councillor for Eastham ward in 2014 . He was brought up and went to school in the ward he still represents today.
One Wirral he is our spokesperson and Vice Chair on the Children’s, Education and Families Committee, the Looked-after Children’s Board and also has a seat on the corporate parenting board, working with young people across Wirral as well as within our local community where he is Chair of Governers at his local Primary School.
He has been married to Alison since 1987, has a daughter, and four grand children which he says, "keep you fit and is better than a buying gym membership."
