Due to the ongoing pandemic situation, our Autumn 2021 conference will held such as to allow attendance online or in-person. COVID restrictions permitting, we are organising a mixed conference using both formats.
It will be held on Saturday 30th October. The in-person side of the event will be at the Lancaster campus of the University of Cumbria, while the online side will run on Zoom.
We will hear from speakers including Ed Davey MP, Layla Moran MP, Lord Stunell, and Party President Mark Pack. The annual Viv Bingham memorial lecture will be presented by Bernard Greaves.
Conference opens at 10am and runs to 4.30pm, followed by the regional Annual General Meeting from 4.30pm to 5pm.
Advance conference registration is available at £10 per person.
Book online here (Online or In-Person tickets) via Paypal using this drop-down menu and add the name/names of the people you are booking for and your local party before clicking on Buy Now.
That button will then take you through to a page for information about your payment card and address:
The in-person side of the event will be held at University of Cumbria, Bowerham Road, Lancaster LA1 3JD. We will be in the Sentamu Building, and there is free onsite car parking. Alternatively it is about a 20 minute walk from Lancaster train station.
Here are a set of maps showing how to get to the conference centre as PDF and here is a jpeg campus map of the site, showing both the conference building and nearby building with cafe for lunch.
The postcode for satnav devices is LA1 3JD. The nearest motorway interchange is Junction 34 of the M6 - alternatively you can leave at J33 or J35 and follow the A6.
Note for first time attendees:
On arrival at conference you will be able to collect your conference pack and conference pass / name badge. The conference pack includes the timings for the day, motions to be debated, training programme and other information.
You will only need your name and local party to collect this - if your membership card is lost or has not yet arrived from HQ as a new member, don't panic, it's not a problem.
For online attendance, the papers are sent as a PDF with a link to the Zoom meeting. You will need to install the Zoom program (free) beforehand from their website.
Policy motions needed to be submitted to email@example.com by July 20 2021.
Emergency / Topical Motions or Amendments need to be submitted to the same email address by 12 noon October 4 2021.
Advice on writing and structuring motions is available via the same email address. See the policy page for some recent motions to past conferences that were taken and debated to understand the usual format for writing a motion.
The Conference Committee and Policy Committee have agreed one main motion for debate this Autumn, which will be on the subject of HS2.
We will welcome nominations for the annual President's Awards recognising long service to the party.
These are presented each Autumn North West Conference by the regional president; our regional president since January 1 2021 is Jackie Pearcey.
We will also be introducing a new award recognising a grassroots / community based issue campaign. This will be named in memory of veteran North West campaigner Tony Greaves, who passed away earlier this year.
The nomination paperwork for the regional awards is here: note the nominations deadline is 10th September 2021.
We will welcome bids/proposals for fringe meetings at the conference, whether from outside organisations or Lib Dem groups (LPs/AOs/SAOs).
Email firstname.lastname@example.org with an outline of the session you'd like to propose.
