Spring 2019: Manchester

St Thomas Centre, Manchester

Our 2019 Spring conference will be in Manchester at the St Thomas Centre, Ardwick Green North.

This is around 10 minutes walk from Manchester Piccadilly train station, just off the A6 on many bus routes in and out of the city.

It is to be held on Saturday 9th February 2019 and run from 10am - 4.30pm.

The registration desk is set to open at 9.30am.

Speakers & Agenda

Our speakers include Sir Nick Harvey, Paula Keaveney, Lord Andrew Stunell, Lord Mike Storey and Lord William Wallace.

We also have panels marking 101 years of (some) women having the vote, and LGBT History Month.

Nick Harvey (pictured) is Chief Executive of the Liberal Democrats, overseeing the work of Party HQ, and was an MP for nearly a quarter of a decade including time as defence minister in the 2010-2015 coalition government.

William Wallace will be giving the Paddy Ashdown Memorial Lecture.

Andrew Stunell will present a parliamentary report on the work of our group in the House of Lords.

Mike Storey is our Education Spokesperson in the House of Lords and was leader of Liverpool City Council 1998 - 2005.

Training

We will have two training rooms with sessions running all through the day to help you campaign more effectively in the run-up to May's local elections, as well as build and strengthen your local organisation. The programme includes:

  • Parliamentary Campaign Fundraising
  • Women Candidates Discussion
  • Parliamentary Candidates Briefing
  • Managing an effective local party
  • GOTV ‐ Writing good copy for Focus
  • GOTV ‐ Campaign from now to GOTV
  • GOTV ‐ Winning the polling‐day vote
  • GOTV ‐ Winning the postal vote

Policy

Policy Motions to regional conference needed to be submitted by Wednesday January 9th. Emergency / topical motions can still be submitted.
